Even though its only a block away from my school and visible from any south facing window in the building, this makes me nervous. But this is what parking in the city is like, I just have to live with it.

So because I hit a fire hydrant, I have no right to worry about my truck getting hit? If anything because I fixed it myself it should give me more motivation to keep it from getting hit. It would motivate me to not only keep my truck from getting damaged, but my handiwork as well.

For sure everyone is entitled to worry about his or her ride, but let’s not be the crazies who paste pool noodles on their car and use bumper guards to avoid the errant ding. maybe not from you, but others I personally feel were in violation of Rule 1 of OPPO.

I remember when I was younger and had a rough SUV that was the world to me, it looked like crap to everyone else and had some rust holes even. But it was mine, and i built it by hand and I would worry when parking on a street.

Doesn’t mean people should have told me “your truck is lame who cares?” That ain’t right man.

Honesty, from my perspective it wasn’t the joke, it was the bickering back and forth that ensued that was the problem. I’m ok with the occasional good natured joke around here (“good natured” being the key), I’ve even lobbed my fair share, usually at my fellow mods or Stef and her pet duck. But if the target of said joke takes offense the better course of action is to apologize and move on, not argue for the next hour. That’s the bit that I don’t like.

I street park my A4 every single day. People with much nicer cars street park every single day. In DC, even the richest of the rich street park every single day.

I honestly don’t think it was targeted at you. I get where he’s coming from, when you have a car that’s leaking or might leak you don’t want to street park it. Among other things some cities and towns may ticket you if they see proof your car is leaking potentially damaging fluids in the street.

If it’s gotten to a point where you “fear with every post I make that he’s gonna find a way to put me and/or my truck down”, you are not just sensitive to it now, you’re always sensitive to it. If you can’t take a moment and have a self-deprecating laugh at yourself when someone makes a little joke about a mistake you’ve made, you’re taking such things and yourself far too seriously. Get over those jokes and you’ll get over the mistakes you’ve made. Such little pokes are inconsequential, as long as you learn from your mistakes, that’s all that matters.

From what I’ve seen, it’s been weeks/months since Jayhawk made a joke like that; given the amount of time we all spend here, that’s a collective eternity. Try not to take it too seriously the next time it happens. Hell, have a laugh, you’ll live longer. If it gets to a point where Jayhawk or someone else is legitimately denigrating you, let the mods know and it will be dealt with appropriately but for infrequent jokes we shouldn’t have to.

My parents have a Ranger similar to yours (‘95, same exterior though newer style interior, 4.0, 4x4, automatic, same wheels) though ours is in significantly worse shape (200k+ miles, 20 years of Canadian salted winters and it shows), they’re fun trucks and they seem to brush off anything you can throw at them. You can easily do the same.

It seems only part of my comment has gotten through to you. This is not a ‘fued’ and he’s not trying to ‘get’ you. He makes a (clever but innocent) joke, you take it far too seriously and retaliate by legitimately putting down his car. The only one ‘fueding’ is you.

The only time he said anything even close to legitimately disparaging of you was his criticism of your art once and you should have taken that just as it was, criticism. Art is subjective, meaning people will have positive and negative things to say about it. When you post something you open yourself up for such feedback. The world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, you are not going to get only encouraging and supportive comments. Learn from this, move on and don’t complain the next time someone makes a joke.
